Healthiest Restaurants in San Diego for Mother’s Day

San Diego is brimming with wonderful restaurants that will be hosting Mother’s Day brunch specials your mom is sure to savor. However, it can be challenging to eat healthy when so many offer bottomless mimosas, fluffy pastries, maple syrup, and savory bacon. There is no doubt that these brunch items are amazing and we all indulge from time to time. But for moms watching their health or those with dietary restrictions, it can be hard to avoid temptation at the endless brunch buffet. We’ve put together suggestions at some of our favorite brunch spots to help you and your mom keep it healthy this Mother’s Day.

Herb & Wood

If your mom is the foodie type, treat her to Brian Malarkey’s Herb & Wood in Little Italy for their signature rustic, wood-fired dishes. They have both brunch and dinner specials this Mother’s Day. The two-course brunch features items hamachi, tuna nicoise, and roasted wild mushrooms. If you do dinner instead, you’ll get to choose from items like farmers market greens, roasted half chicken, and roasted cauliflower.

Season’s 52:

Season’s 52 is offering a Mother’s Day brunch from 10am-2pm. Prefer to dine at home? Get the “Mother’s Day Green Box To Go” with your choice of entree, salad, two sides, and desserts. Their menu specializes in locally sourced products that change with the seasons as well as simple cooking techniques that bring out the natural flavor of their food. All of their menu items have a calorie count next them for moms monitoring their caloric intake. They also have gluten-sensitive, vegetarian, and vegan menu options for those moms with dietary restrictions.

Roy’s San Diego Waterfront:

Roy’s San Diego Waterfront is serving a two-course brunch menu for Mother’s Day in the morning, but is also open in the evening if you’d prefer to take your mom to a sumptuous dinner.  This is the perfect opportunity to not only take your mom to a healthy meal, but to enjoy a stress-relieving view of the San Diego Bay and soak up some vitamin D with a stroll through Seaport Village.

Try Roy’s fresh sushi or fish for low fat, lean protein options. Roy’s also has several salads on the menu that are served with light vinaigrette dressings to keep calories down.

True Food Kitchen:

True Food Kitchen is celebrating Mother’s Day with special “Mom-osas.” Either location of this restaurant is an excellent choice for both healthy moms and moms with dietary restrictions. Their seasonal menu, nutrient-rich ingredients, and variety of gluten-free, organic, vegetarian, and vegan offerings is certain to have a dish your mom will love.

There are so many healthy items on the True Food brunch menu, it’s hard to narrow it down. Start with a “Bright Eyes” smoothie containing pear, ginger, beet, pineapple, turmeric and carrot. This will fill you up with carotenoids and antioxidants to boost mom’s immune system and reduce inflammation. Then move onto the “Sunrise Bowl” with eggs, grains, and veggies to power up with lean protein and fiber.
