February 2020: Senior-Friendly Activities in San Diego

Now that you are back into a regular routine after the holidays, it may be time to mix it up and do something new. Here’s a list of a few senior-friendly activities to do this February in San Diego!

Seniors Free at San Diego Zoo Safari Park in February

When: All of February
Where: San Diego Zoo Safari Park, 15500 San Pasqual Valley Road, Escondido, CA 92027
Cost: Free
Take a walk on the wild side at the Safari Park! Seniors 65 and older will receive free admission all month. Visit cheetahs, rhinos, zebras and hundreds more beautiful animals, while enjoying the fresh air and crisp February weather!

Forever Fit Seniors

When: Tuesday and Thursdays, February 4-27, 10:30am
Where: Lopez Ridge Recreation Center, 7245 Calle Cristobal San Diego, CA 92126
Cost: Free
If you are looking to switch up your exercise routine, check out this chair-based class that leads you in both standing and seated exercises. The program also integrates meditation and breath-work to strengthen your endurance and inner strength.

Senior Anglers of Escondido

When: February 14, 9:30am-11am
Where: Park Avenue Community Center, 210 Park Avenue, Escondido, 92025
Cost: Free
Fans of fishing should not miss this free talk by Captain Billy Miyagawa, who has spent 31 years as a private boat captain. He’s caught big fish all over the world, and will share tips and tricks for fishing the local waters off Southern California.

Culture & Cocktails: Flight of Love

When: February 13, 6pm-10pm
Where: San Diego Museum of Art,1450 El Prado, San Diego, CA 92102
Cost: $10 for members / $25 for nonmembers
Head to the Museum of Art after hours to combine cocktails and art history! February’s Valentine’s Day edition features an exhibition centered around Cupid and his escapades, and the evening will provide other treats like aerial performers and a craft station where you can make paper flowers.

San Diego Theatre Week

When: February 13-23
Where: Participating theatres throughout San Diego County
Cost: Tickets are available at $15, $30, and $45 price points
The San Diego Performing Arts League organizes San Diego Theatre Week to highlight the variety of San Diego’s theatre community. Check the website for participating theatres, and grab a ticket to plays like Babette’s Feast, Murder for Two, and A Chorus Line.

International Jewish Film Festival

When: February 13-23
Where: Participating theatres throughout the county – see their website for details
Cost: Tickets range from $5-$18
The film festival presented by the San Diego Center for Jewish Culture is now in its 30th year! The 11-day festival showcases the best in modern Jewish-related films across several genres.

5K Paw Walk in the Garden

When: February 15, 8am-12pm
Where: San Diego Botanic Garden, 230 Quail Gardens Dr, Encinitas, CA 92024
Cost: $32
Grab your furry friend and head to the Botanical Garden! Dogs are not usually allowed in the park, but they are more than welcome during this fundraiser for Rancho Coastal Humane Society. You’ll enjoy the beautiful scenery as you stroll through the garden, and make some new human and canine pals along the way.

KuumbaFest

When: February 28-March 1
Where: San Diego Repertory Theatre, 79 Horton Plaza, San Diego, CA 92101
Cost: Prices vary by event
KuumbaFest is a celebration of African-American culture and expressions. The three-day festival includes plays, workshops, a marketplace, Hip Hop showcase, speakers, artists and a health fair.
