Take Your Dog to the Park in San Diego

San Diego dogs sure are lucky—they get to play in the warm sun most of the year, and there is an abundance of awesome dog parks built specifically for them! Whether your dog is small or large, a swimmer or prefers to play in the dirt, there is something for everyone in San Diego. Make a playdate at one of the parks on this list, and try them all until you find the perfect fit for you and your pooch!

Tips for a Great Day at the Dog Park:

● Bring extra water—your pooch’s new friends will most likely want some too!
● Pick up after your dog! Not only is it polite, but you’ll help the spread of bacteria. While a lot of parks have doggy bags handy, be prepared by bringing some of your own.
● Make sure your dog is current on it’s vaccinations before coming in contact with numerous new dogs.
● Don’t bring food. Your dog may know better, but the other dogs may be aggressive when they smell your snacks.
● Keep your leash nearby in case you need to remove your dog from the fenced-in area quickly.
● Pay attention. Be aware of what your dog is doing and be ready to yell a command or step in if needed. Besides, watching dogs play is a joyous thing—stay present so you don’t miss a moment of the fun.

Ocean Beach Dog Beach

Ocean Beach Dog Beach was one of the first leash-free beaches in the US. Dogs can chase each other across the warm sandy beaches and swim in the river or ocean waves. Dog owners get to enjoy the fresh ocean air while watching happy dogs play with each other in the Pacific, so it’s easy to understand why this is one of the most popular dog parks in San Diego!

Rohr Park

4700 Sweetwater Rd, Bonita, CA, US, 91902
Rohr Park in Bonita has lovely walking trails, pavilions, and a children’s playground, and they now have two sections for dogs to play in off-leash. The dog park has agility structures, and it’s fun to watch the pups have a great time on a playground built just for them.

Nate’s Point Dog Park

2500 Balboa Dr, San Diego, 92103
This park in central San Diego is right next to the famous Balboa Park. The park is completely fenced, so dogs can safely run free at this off-leash, 2.3 acre park. The park also has a drinking fountain and picnic tables, so you can relax and comfortably stay awhile.

Fiesta Island Dog Park

1750 Fiesta Island Rd, San Diego, 92109
Fiesta Island is a doggy paradise, where pups can run leash-free through the sandy beaches and splash in the water of the bay. In the spring, the island is full of wildflowers, and while the dogs may not care much about that, it’s a lovely place for their humans to spend time.

Capehart Park

Capehart has two sections to their park, one for large and one for small dogs. There is lots of shade and seating for the humans to comfortably hang out while the pups play. Take the whole family and enjoy the playgrounds and basketball court too!

Del Mar Dog Beach

3200 Camino Del Mar, Del Mar, CA 92014
The City of Del Mar allows dogs to be off-leash on the north end of the beach, from 29th Street north to Solana Beach. Dogs have to be on-leash during the busy summer months, but are allowed to explore and play freely from Labor Day to June 15th.

Canine Corners Park

Canine Corners Dog Park, located inside of Harry Griffen Regional Park, is a nonprofit supported by donations and volunteers. The park has three separate areas for dogs of different sizes to safely play and make new friends. They also host fun events such as the Howl-O-Ween Festival in October.
