September 2022: Senior-friendly Activities

Looking to get have a little fun in September and maybe try something new? Here are just a few of the fabulous senior-friendly events happening in San Diego County this month! 

Gentle Yoga

When: Every Monday and Wednesday, 4-5pm
Where: Envision Personalized Health, 4620 Alvarado Canyon Road, #14, 92120
Cost: $30

Get your zen on with a gentle yoga class. Your instructor Tammy will guide you through light yoga and stretching. Perfect for injuries, those looking for slow movement, or if you are new to yoga. 

20th Annual SoCal Rehab Golf Classic

When: September 8, 1pm
Where: Singing Hills Golf Resort at Sycuan, 3007 Dehesa Road, El Cajon, CA 92019
Cost: Varies 

The SoCal Rehab Golf Classic is San Diego’s only golf tournament that pairs players who have physical limitations with an able-bodied partner. The event is about enjoying the camaraderie and the challenge of being out on the course while raising money for the Alvarado Damas de Servicio. The 9-hole tournament is a four-player scramble format with teams of at least one individual with a physical limitation. Golfers with physical impairments will have the option to play from designated forward tees.

Greatest Show On Turf Car Show

When: Sat, September 10, 9am to 2:30pm
Where: South Clairemont Recreation Center, 3605 Clairemont Dr, 92117
Cost: $30

The San Diego Association of Car Clubs is hosting their annual Greatest Show On Turf Car Show in conjunction with Clairemont Family Days. Check out some really unique and interesting cars, enter a raffle for great prizes, and visit one of the food vendors to have a tasty snack while you check out the vehicles.   

The Friends Show

When: Sat, September 17, 10am to 5pm
Where: Chollas Lake Park, 6350 College Grove Drive, 92115
Cost: Free

This family-friendly event at beautiful Chollas Lake will feature a special harp performance by Mariea Antoinette, music by Maestro and Liberation Posse, and Toot Bell, among others, line dancing, food vendors, raffles, and more! Take a walk, see a musical performance, and enjoy a spoken word contest at this annual fundraising event to support The Malcolm X Library.

San Diego Senior Games

When: Various dates in September—check their website for details
Where: Throughout San Diego County
Cost: $40+, fees vary based on event

Now in it’s 35th year, San Diego’s only organization that offers older adults the opportunity to compete in multiple Olympic-style sporting events is back in September. Athletes compete in age categories of five-year increments from age 50 to over 100 years old. Whether you want to participate for fun and camaraderie or compete to qualify for the 2023 National Senior Games, check out their website and sign up for your favorite activity. 

San Diego River Cleanup

When: Sat, September 24, 9:00am to 12pm
Where: San Diego River, 92109 (meeting point will be shared within 48 hours of the event)
Cost: Free

Do some good while enjoying fresh air at the Recycle For Veterans x The San Diego River Foundation collaborative event. They supply grabbers, buckets, and gloves, so all you need to do is show up prepared to help, and maybe make some new friends.
