Celebrating Chinese New Year in San Diego

With their chubby faces and big ears, pigs are a sign of fortune and wealth in Chinese culture, a great prospect for 2019, the Year of the Pig. Following the Chinese zodiac, 12 different animals are each assigned a different year and then repeat in a 12-year cycle. Last year was the Year of the Dog and this year is Year of the Pig.

Chinese New Year begins on February 5th and will last for more than two weeks. Traditionally, this holiday is celebrated with red envelopes gifts, firecrackers, bells and lion dances (a symbol for good luck).
