Best Places To Take Your Dog In San Diego

National Dog Day occurs every August, but to most dog owners, every day is Dog Day. We plan our schedules and activities around our furry friends to make sure we get to spend as much time with them as possible and to keep them happy and healthy. If you want to show your pup some extra attention, here are some dog-friendly things to do in San Diego.

Go for a Hike

Get outside and enjoy the warm weather and San Diego scenery by taking your pup on a hike. Be sure to research hikes first to make sure you pick one that’s right for your dog’s fitness level — unless you want to carry them as part of your own fitness routine, that is! Remember to stick to the trails and keep an eye out for snakes. Be sure to give your dog plenty of water breaks. Try a Stand-Up Paddleboard

Bring Fido along for some watersports! An aquatic adventure on a paddleboard is a great way to enjoy the fresh air and sun with your doggo. Reserve a private lesson at SUP Pups where you’ll get coached on form and terminology before heading out for a leisurely paddle. The class includes paddleboard rental, life vests for both you and your pooch, and 10-20 action photos of you and your best friend in action. Sounds like the makings for a great social media post!

Go Kayaking

Maybe balancing on a paddleboard isn’t for you (or your pup) but you’d still love to have a relaxing day paddling around the water. Rent a tandem kayak at Aqua Adventures where all rentals are pet-friendly. Bring some snacks for both of you and have a little picnic in the middle of the bay, where your pup will enjoy watching birds and looking out for the occasional fish sighting.

Play at the Park

If you have a dog in San Diego, then you already know that this is a city that dedicates lots of outdoor space for our dogs to play! Dog owners are lucky to have tons of options in San Diego for clean places for their dogs to let off some steam — you name it and San Diego has it: there are parks at the beach, parks in the middle of residential neighborhoods, and parks for different sizes of dogs. Looking to try a new spot? Here’s our list of some of the most popular dog parks throughout San Diego county.

Go Camping

Grab your gear and take your pup for an overnight stay out in nature. While you are there, go for walks, play fetch, and just spend some lazy time relaxing away from home. Be sure to check with the campground to make sure they are pet-friendly before you make a reservation, as not all of them are.

No matter what kind of outing you plan for you and your furry friend, being together is all you really need to have a great time!
