San Diego Pediatrician Honored for “Excellence in Child Hypnosis”
JACKSONVILLE, FL – Dr. Ran D. Anbar was honored by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis on March 30, 2015 with the William C. Wester Award for “Excellence in Child Hypnosis.” This award recognizes his significant contributions to the field of hypnosis as applied to the treatment of children and research in the application of hypnosis with children. Anbar is a pediatric pulmonologist who has been involved with hypnosis since 1998, and has treated more than 4000 children. The most common symptoms for which children have been referred to Anbar include abdominal pain, anxiety, headaches, insomnia, and shortness of breath. Anbar founded Center Point Medicine in 2014, through which he provides pediatric medical hypnosis and counseling in La Jolla. He served as Director of the Pediatric Pulmonary and Cystic Fibrosis Center at the SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY for 21 years before relocating to southern California. Anbar is recognized internationally for his clinical work, scientific publications and books regarding patients with asthma, cystic fibrosis, functional abdominal pain, habit cough, and vocal cord dysfunction. Anbar’s innovative contributions to hypnosis include automatic word processing during which patients learn how to develop insight while typing during hypnosis, and use of personalized illustrated take-home patient education material that children continue to review and find helpful for many months after their visits with Anbar. “I am very thankful for children and their families who have allowed me to help them,” said Anbar.
