March 2020: Senior-Friendly Activities in San Diego

Looking for something new to mix up your routine and adventure out into San Diego? Here’s a list of a few senior-friendly activities to do this March in San Diego, including everything from talent shows to festivals.

AgeWell Talent Show

When: March 20, 10am – 1pm
Where: War Memorial Building Auditorium
Cost: $7 – $10
Bring out your tap-dancing shoes, your best vocals, or your best dance moves and be a part of the AgeWell talent show. You can be a part of the experience on stage or simply cheer on your local San Diegan friends!

Essence of Life

When: March 22, 2pm – 5pm
Where: Southwestern Yacht Club
Cost: $30 and up
Essence of Life honors ElderHelp clients, volunteers, and community partners who support Elderhelp’s mission. All the proceeds of the event go towards helping citizens here in San Diego offering hope and security as they age with dignity and grace in their homes.

Active Minds: An improv program for seniors

When: March 10 – April 7, 9:30 am – 11:30 am
Where: National Comedy Theater Training Center
Cost: Registration for 6 weeks is $125
Active Minds is an educational program that uses improv to help improve cognitive ability, increase social interaction, and foster brain health. You can brush up on your improv skills and work with acting professionals that will demonstrate the skills used in creating improvised comedy shows. All of the classes offered are relaxed, low stress, accessible, very funny, and never embarrassing.

Carmel Valley Senior Lunch

When: March 13, 12:30pm – 3pm
Where: Carmel Valley Recreation Center
Cost: Free
Sit down, relax, and enjoy the March air with this free lunch offered at the Carmel Valley Recreation Center. Along with a free lunch for adults 50+ there will be board games and cards to socialize with fellow locals.

10th Annual Cherry Blossom Festival in Balboa Park

When: March 7 -8
Where: Balboa Park
Cost: $5-$6
This two-day celebration of the 10th Annual Cherry Blossom Festival in Balboa Park will have Japanese food, lively music, dance performances, and a number of other activities to enjoy. You are able to walk through the beautiful cherry tree groves as you enjoy the festive Balboa Park ambiance!

Spring into Healthy Living Event

When: March 4, 9am – 12pm
Where: McGrath Family YMCA
Cost: Free
Healthy living is more than just exercise, it is a lifestyle of overall wellness! This free event will offer free breakfast, health screenings, presentations, and more.

Dance It Out Adaptive Fitness Classes

When: March 7 – April 11, 10am – 10:45am
Where: 7528 Clairemont Mesa Blvd, San Diego, CA 92111
Cost: Free
Dance It Out Adaptive Fitness is a free fitness class that allows people with physical disabilities to be paired with an able-body partner to dance with. Whether you use a wheelchair or can walk without assistance,  you are invited to come to the classes to enjoy dance fitness at all levels of mobility!

Cirque du Soleil: OVO

When: March 5, 7pm – 9pm
Where: Viejas Arena
Cost: $65 and up
Ovo is a touring circus production that is affiliated with Cirque du Soleil from Montreal, Canada. The show features an artistic viewpoint of insects through the art of movement. The art of movement permeates throughout the entire show through leaping, flying, crawling, and acrobatic movements.
