How to Make Your Own Herbal Tea Blends
If you love tea, you’ll enjoy creating your own unique herbal tea blends by mixing different dried ingredients. Store-bought tea bags can be full of artificial flavors and some of the bags are even made from plastic. You can bypass the unnatural additives by creating your own tea with dried herbs and flowers. All you need are the tea ingredients, hot water, and a mason jar to put your delicious new drinks in!
Buy
You can find loose tea ingredients at your local grocery store or specialty tea store. While your local grocery store may have limited options, you can make a few ingredients go a long way. Dried teas, herbs, spices, fruits, blossoms and flowers of all kinds make delicious and nutritious additions to your tea blend.
Blend
Once you have your ingredients, it’s time to get creative! Mix and match your loose tea ingredients on a cutting board, creating little piles for each blend. Don’t be afraid to try new flavors. When you’ve created your desired blend, place the ingredients in a tea ball, tea sac, or strainer. Whatever item you place the ingredients in should be able to sit in a closed mason jar overnight; letting the herbs sit together before using will help make a more aromatic cup of tea!
Prepare
While you’re ready to enjoy your tea blends, boil water for the steeping process. Once the water has come to a boil, place your tea inside of a mason jar, or teacup, and pour the hot water over it. Once you pour hot water over the blend, the aromas and flavors will become pronounced.
Steep
If you want to enjoy a quick cup of tea, there’s no need to worry about how to store your tea blends. However, if you’d like to make a big batch of tea for a later date, you can store it in a mason jar. The longer you steep your tea, the more intense the flavor will be. Keep this in mind when you are creating your blends. A longer steep time should call for fewer tea ingredients so the flavor doesn’t become overpowering.
Making customized tea with your family is a great way to get creative while increasing your immunity-boosting benefits!
