Podiatrists may choose to specialize in a specific field, such as surgery, sports medicine, wound care, diabetic care, or pediatrics.

Foot Pain

Foot pain is very common and can occur anywhere in the foot, including the toes and ankle. Certain health conditions like diabetes, arthritis, and inflammatory conditions may contribute to foot pain.

Inserts & Orthotics

Orthotics are devices used to to treat, support, and/or adjust various foot problems. Some conditions may benefit from commercially-made inserts, but the most effective orthotics are custom-made.

Running Injuries

Running is a great form of exercise, but it’s also a huge stress on your body. Proper running shoes are crucial to avoid injury, and a podiatrist may be able to make recommendations based on your foot anatomy.

Podiatrists provide complete care for surgical and non-surgical problems of the foot, including disorders resulting from the foot’s structural formation, skin conditions, joint and mobility problems, and sports and work-related injuries. Some of the most common podiatric conditions or diseases include: arthritis, sprains, strains, fractures, heel pain, tendinitis, athlete’s foot, psoriasis, ingrown toenails, and neuromas.

With appropriate detection, intervention, and care, many foot and ankle conditions can be prevented or at least reduced. Common treatments include shoe inserts and prescription orthotics, physical therapy, and trigger point injections. More serious podiatric problems may require surgery. A podiatrist may work in a multidisciplinary team of specialists including primary care physicians, rehabilitation specialists, orthopaedic surgeons, rheumatologists, and other specialists in order to provide the best management and/or treatment plan depending on your foot condition. Podiatrists often treat workers’ compensation injuries.
