Dr. Ballard is fellowship-trained in orthopedic surgery of the shoulder, elbow and hand. Her scope of care ranges from arthritis care of the hand, nerve compression like carpal and cubital tunnel syndromes, general orthopedic fracture care, arthroscopy, and complex joint replacements throughout the hand and upper extremity.
Dr. Ballard completed her general orthopedic residency at University of California at San Diego, then traveled to University of Florida for a fellowship focused on shoulder to fingertip orthopedic surgery. She received her M.D. from University of Illinois where she had previously graduated Magna Cum Laude with dual degrees in Honors Biology, and Chemistry.
No stranger to injuries and rehabilitation herself, Dr. Ballard sustained an ankle fracture as well as tendon lacerations in two separate seasons as a high school varsity athlete and team captain. She still enjoys running, volunteering for a local organization to help middle school girls (www.gotrsd.org), volunteering with a national congenital limb differences camp (www.handstolove.org), and swimming at the La Jolla Cove with her husband.
