December 2019: Senior-Friendly Activities in San Diego

December is always a busy—and fun—time of year, and San Diego is home to many enjoyable events this month suitable for seniors. Here a few of the wonderful activities to do this December in San Diego!

Mira Mesa Senior Center Christmas Party & Holiday Benefit

When: December 6th, 5-10pm
Where: Mira Mesa Senior Center, 8460 Mira Mesa Blvd, San Diego, CA 92126
Cost: $30
Enjoy a night of dinner and music, with a special performance by Floyd A. Smith,
bass baritone singer for the Legendary “5th Dimension”. It’s guaranteed to be a lovely night out!

Free Toys for Tots Pancake Breakfast

When: December 7, 8:30-10:30am
Where: Mira Mesa Senior Center, 8460 Mira Mesa Blvd, San Diego, CA 92126
Cost: Free to attend. Suggested donation: one new, unwrapped toy per guest
After a fun night at the Christmas Party & Holiday Benefit, return to the Mira Mesa Senior Center the next morning for the charity pancake breakfast benefiting Toys for Tots. Don’t forget to bring an unwrapped toy to brighten a local child’s holiday!

Andrea Bocelli in Concert

When: December 8, 7:30pm
Where: Pechanga Arena San Diego, 3500 Sports Arena Blvd, San Diego, CA 92110
Cost: $130-$270
Andrea Bocelli is the biggest-selling solo artist in the history of classical music, having sold more than 70 million albums over a 20-year career. He returns to Pechanga after a sold-out show in 2018. Don’t miss this phenomenal performer!

The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Donations

Where: Various locations throughout San Diego County. See website for details.
Cost: Free
Volunteer for the Salvation Army by bell ringing and collecting donations this holiday season! They need volunteers on multiple days and in several locations across the county. Gather your friends, coworkers, and family and make a difference in your local community!

San Diego Musical Theatre’s “A Christmas Story: The Musical”

When: November 29 – December 29, performance times vary
Where: Horton Grand Theatre, 444 Fourth Avenue, San Diego, CA
Cost: $30-$70
Based on the classic movie, the story of nine-year old Ralphie Parker and his family’s Christmas activities is full of hilarious situations and lovable characters. See the live musical version and make new holiday memories!

Holiday Movies on the Beach at The Del

When: December 14 & 21, 7pm / December 31, 6:30pm
Where: Hotel Del Coronado, 1500 Orange Avenue, Coronado, CA
Cost: $20-$300
Snuggle up on Del Beach for classic holiday movies in a theater under the stars. Guests may relax around a private bonfire with s’mores, lounge on a beach daybed, or enjoy seating in comfortable sand chairs. Check the website for the list of movies and to reserve tickets.

Welk Resorts’ 4th Annual Winter Wonderland Celebration

When: December 15, 1-6pm
Where: Welk Resorts San Diego Golf Course, 8860 Lawrence Welk Drive, Escondido, CA 92026

It’s fun for people of all ages when the Welk Resort makes is snow on December 15th! Activities include arts & crafts, roasting s’mores, Christmas cuisine tastings, and a full bar including hot toddies and wine.

Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas

When: November 10 – December 29
Where: 1363 Old Globe Way, San Diego, CA 92101
Cost: Prices vary depending on seat selection
Back for its 22nd year at The Old Globe Theatre, the whimsical family-favorite musical “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” dazzles audiences for another season. Celebrate the holidays as the Old Globe is once again transformed into the snow-covered Whoville wonderland!
