August 2021: San Diego Senior-Friendly Activities
Now that places are opening post-pandemic, you may be in the mood to get out and try something new. Here’s a list of a few senior-friendly activities to do this August in San Diego County!
Chula Vista Lemon Festival
When: Sunday, August 4, 11am-5pm
Where: Third Avenue between E and G Streets, Chula Vista
Cost: Free
Celebrate Chula Vista’s heritage as the “Lemon Capital of the World” at this event that features live entertainment, a kids’ fun zone, and prizes for Lemon Pie eating, lemon peeling, and largest lemon!
Gladys Knight in Concert
When: Sunday August 8, 7pm
Where: Rady Shell at Jacobs Park, 200 Marina Park Way, 92101
Cost: Tickets range from $72 to $97
Join Gladys Knight for a soulful evening of R&B music. The beautiful outdoor venue at the embarcadero provides a modern setting for enjoying a night of classic hits.
Artwalk 16th Annual Fine Art Festival
When: Saturday, August 7 and Sunday, August 8 10am-6pm
Where: Arts District in Liberty Station, 2751 Dewey Road, San Diego, CA 92106
Cost: Free
Artwalk is back! View art from more than 150 artists from across several states and Mexico. A variety of mediums will be on display, including paintings, photography, glass and ceramic, jewelry and sculpture.
Cardiff Dog Days of Summer
When: Sunday, August 8, 10am-5pm
Where: Encinitas Community Park, 425 Santa Fe Drive, Encinitas, CA, 92024
Cost: Free
Admire sweet pups at this free event celebrating all things dog. Visit a variety of dog-related vendors, rescue groups, and pet adoption agencies. Activities include dog contests, live music, libation lounge, food trucks, and more!
San Diego Padres vs. Philadelphia Phillies
When: Saturday, August 21, 5:40 PM
Where: Petco Park, 100 Park Blvd, San Diego, CA
Cost: Ticket prices vary depending on seat location
Get out and enjoy America’s favorite pastime when the Padres play the Phillies. Make sure to take advantage of fan giveaway night and walk away with a Padres backpack!
Bike the Bay
When: Sunday, August 22
Where: Bayshore Bikeway, starting at Embarcadero Marina Park South
Cost: $55-$65
Bike the Bay is back for its 14th annual ride. This non-competitive community bike ride is for people of all ages and abilities. Saddle up for a primarily flat, 25-mile ride around the San Diego Bay. Proceeds support the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition.
Coronado Walking Tour
When: Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, begins at 11am (90 minute tour)
Where: Meet in the music room at the Glorietta Bay Inn, 1630 Glorietta Blvd, Coronado, CA 92118
Cost: $15
Take a leisurely guided stroll around Coronado Island! Enjoy the refreshing ocean breeze and stunning scenery as you hear stories of the moguls, movie stars, Navy personnel, and other luminaries who have helped shape Coronado’s 100-year history.
